Community Kuleana

Permanent Agricultural Sustainability

Mission

Kūleana – right, privilege, concern, responsibility

We believe our rights as a local community carry with them the responsibility to teach our keiki (children) and future generations about stewardship of the aina (land). Our primary focus is to promote sustainable and lasting soil fertility through permaculture design and organic farming practices that strengthen our local food supply resilience.

We believe the food we eat is foundational for a healthy gut microbiome and it starts with cultivating a thriving, diverse microbiome in the soil. Our aim is not only to combat hunger, but to grow food that’s as nutrient-dense as possible on land designated and protected as permanent fixtures in the community. Starting on Kaua’i, and eventually expanding the model as far as possible, we want to see permaculture food forests established that offer opportunity for both education and jobs in providing our community with the highest quality produce and meat for generations to come.
